Stand with your back to a wall, arms outstretched like a mummy, parallel to the floor. Rotate your body to one side, keeping your feet firmly on the ground and your arms straight. The goal? To touch the wall with your fingertips, measuring the distance from your heels to the wall. This test is all about core strength and control.
Lie flat on your stomach, arms forming a triangle by your head. Lift your upper body, keeping your legs grounded. This extension measures your spinal flexibility and the strength of your core. A friend's help or some weight on your legs can ensure accurate measurements.
To improve on these benchmarks, Nerd Fitness Yoga offers two poses that can help you strengthen and stretch your spine and torso.
Lay on your back, drawing one knee to your chest and stretching the opposite arm out. Rotate your knee across your body, using your hand to guide it. This pose resets and strengthens your spine.
Start on your belly, lift your chest off the floor by straightening your arms, keeping your hips and thighs grounded. This pose stretches your shoulders, chest, spine, and stomach.
